Baku-APA. The Lebanese Foreign Ministry on Saturday filed a complaint with the UN against the Libyan regime after vandals broke into its embassy in Libya earlier in the day, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

A statement from the Ministry said that the break-in, which was reportedly by supporters of Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi, was a " violation of the embassy’s sanctity and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations."

The Ministry said that it has also filed a complaint with the Arab League.

A pro-Gaddafi mob broke into and vandalized the offices of the Lebanese Embassy in the Libyan capital Tripoli earlier on Saturday, and burned the Lebanese national flag.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported earlier on Saturday that Lebanese President Michel Sleiman gave instructions to caretaker Exterior Minister Ali Shami to file a complaint to the UN.

"It is an atrocious attack on the sovereignty of the Lebanese Republic, and an act shunned by international agreements and accords between member countries of the Arab league and the UN," the NNA quoted Sleiman as saying.
