Xi Jinping’s special representative: Main goal of urban development is to ensure sustainable living

The main goal of urban development is to ensure that people live in safe, comfortable and sustainable conditions, Zhang Guoqing, Special Representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Vice Premier of the State Council of China, said during his speech at the opening ceremony of WUF13, APA reports.

The representative stated that China is currently implementing a new people-centered urbanization policy. According to him, the country’s urban population increased from 720 million in 2012 to 950 million in 2025: “China has created the world’s largest urban housing system.”

It was noted that the per capita living space for the urban population has already exceeded 40 square meters. The Chinese representative emphasized that special importance is being attached to green transition, urban safety, modern governance and the preservation of cultural heritage in the urbanization process.

In his speech, he put forward four main proposals. These include ensuring safe and affordable housing, sustainable and secure cities, innovation-driven development and strengthening international cooperation: “We must build safer, more comfortable, greener and smarter homes.”

It was also noted that the integration of artificial intelligence and big data technologies into urban governance is one of the main directions for the future.
