Housing is one of the main priorities of the global agenda, Deputy National Coordinator of WUF13 Gulshan Rzayeva said during the ministers’ meeting titled “Housing for Social Inclusion and Poverty Eradication” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
She noted that although each country has different economic capacities, institutional systems, and social needs, the common goal is to ensure safe, adequate, and affordable housing.
Gulshan Rzayeva said that interactive discussions are of great importance in terms of sharing the experiences of different countries, developing practical solutions, and promoting inclusive approaches.
She also touched upon the activities of the Open-Ended Intergovernmental Working Group established by UN-Habitat and recalled that Azerbaijan, together with Somalia, was elected co-chair of the process.
According to her, this is a great responsibility in terms of contributing to the global housing agenda.
Gulshan Rzayeva stated that housing policy is one of the main directions of social policy in Azerbaijan. She noted that following the liberation of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur from occupation, large-scale reconstruction, restoration, and resettlement programs are being implemented in the country.
She emphasized that the creation of new residential areas is not only about housing provision, but also a key factor for sustainability, stability, and long-term development. In addition, it was noted that housing policy is directly linked to economic development, employment, climate action, and urban resilience.
It was stated that the discussions held within the framework of the forum play an important role in poverty reduction, social inclusion, and urban development.
“We have an important opportunity to move from dialogue to practical and implementable steps through strong partnership and cooperation,” Gulshan Rzayeva added.
