WUF13 is currently a platform for discussing the challenges faced by society, the urban environment and the urbanization process, Gulshan Rzayeva, Deputy Chief of Staff of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture and Deputy National Coordinator of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), said at the conference titled “Bringing the New Urban Agenda to Life: Integrating Air Quality and Green Infrastructure into Sustainable Cities,” APA reports.

According to her, humanity is facing very serious problems against the backdrop of rapid urbanization, demographic changes and shifting resources.

“It is projected that by 2050, 70 percent of the world’s population will live in cities. Climate change creates additional challenges. Cities both affect these changes and remain under their impact. Because cities create economic opportunities, entertainment, employment and GDP growth. But at the same time, if cities are not properly planned and sustainability and climate-adapted standards are not taken into account, they can accelerate climate change and negatively affect human health. That is exactly why ‘clean air’ is a very important, relevant and future-oriented topic of today’s meeting. This topic gives new breath to the New Urban Agenda,” Gulshan Rzayeva said.

It was noted that although cities create economic development, employment and new opportunities, if they are not properly planned, they can accelerate climate change and negatively affect human health.
