Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur were declared a green energy zone by the decision of President Ilham Aliyev, and renewable energy projects are being implemented in the region on a large scale, Vahid Hajiyev, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Jabrayil, Gubadli and Zangilan districts, said at the session titled “Climate action contributing to peace through urban solutions in vulnerable and conflict-affected areas” held within the framework of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, hydroelectric power stations with a total capacity of 50 megawatts have been built on rivers in the region over the past four years.
V. Hajiyev noted that a 240-megawatt solar power plant project is being implemented in Jabrayil, while additional solar energy projects with a capacity of 100 megawatts are also being carried out.
He stated that solar panels are being installed on the roofs of administrative buildings and residential houses being constructed.
According to the Presidential Special Representative, the green energy produced serves not only to meet the needs of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, but also to create export opportunities.
“Azerbaijan’s experience shows that post-conflict recovery is not only the reconstruction of infrastructure, but also the creation of safe, sustainable and economically efficient communities where people can return with dignity and confidence,” Vahid Hajiyev emphasized.
He added that sustainable settlements in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals are being formed through smart planning, green energy, digital solutions and economic development.
