“Although housing provision is one of the most fundamental rights and basic needs, we are facing many problems in this area,” UN-Habitat project management specialist Haesung Ahn said during the session titled “From Policy to Impact: Housing Delivery at Scale” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
He noted that cities around the world generate more than 70 percent of global GDP:
“The main problems are homes being located too far from workplaces, affordable housing projects being completely inaccessible, and the emergence of rapidly growing informal settlements that planning systems are unable to respond to in time. Therefore, housing issues have become one of the most important topics on national and urban agendas.”
He concluded by stating that many countries are paying special attention to sustainability, adequacy, and financial affordability in their urban planning policies.
