The first session of the Executive Board of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) for 2026 was held on April 21–22, the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operating Company told APA.
According to the information, one of the widely discussed topics at the international event was the Thirteenth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), which Azerbaijan will host in one month.
Detailed information was provided on the preparations for the event jointly carried out by the Government of Azerbaijan and UN-Habitat.
The main theme of WUF13, “Housing for all: safe and sustainable cities and human settlements,” being one of the most pressing issues in the world today, was reflected in the active discussions of member states about the forum, with numerous references to WUF13 to be held in Baku in May. The long-term strategic importance of WUF13 for the global agenda on sustainable urban development was particularly emphasized.
It should be noted that within the framework of the 2nd African Urban Forum (AUF2) held in Nairobi on April 8–10 this year, member states were informed about the work carried out, as well as the activities planned for WUF13 and other global events to be held throughout the year. The active participation of the delegation led by Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and national coordinator of WUF13, in AUF2 was noted, and the substantive connection between AUF2 and WUF13 was highlighted.
