Today, destructive floods, landslides and fires are occurring in many cities, Anaclaudia Rossbach, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), said during a press conference held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), APA reports.
According to her, cities around the world are currently on the front line of climate and natural crises.
Anaclaudia Rossbach also added that humanity is moving toward an increase in the level of urbanization from 50 percent to approximately 70 percent over the next 20 years. This process is taking place against the backdrop of increasing climate challenges, natural disasters and conflicts.
Anaclaudia Rossbach noted that the world needs new approaches and innovations to build sustainable cities of the future.
