Sports, play, and recreation opportunities should be considered among the essential elements of urban life, alongside housing, transport, and public spaces, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Anacláudia Rossbach said in a video address presented during the special session titled “Cities as Playing Fields” held within the framework of WUF13, APA-Economics reports.
The video address stated that the planning, financing, and governance of cities determine not only where people live, but also how they move, communicate, play, and integrate into society.
Anacláudia Rossbach noted that UN-Habitat views sports as an integral part of urban infrastructure directly linked to inclusivity, health, safety, and community well-being.
She emphasized that cooperation among governments, urban planning experts, sports organizations, and financial institutions is essential for integrating sports into urban development.
