Young people must participate in decision-making related to urban planning and urban governance not only as beneficiaries, but as equal partners, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs Felipe Paullier said in a video address to the Children and Youth Assembly organized within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, a home is not only a place where people live, but also where security, dignity, and opportunities begin.
Felipe Paullier noted that millions of young people around the world live in inadequate housing conditions, reside in informal settlements, and feel the effects of climate change in their neighborhoods.
He emphasized that a livable city must ensure access to affordable housing, clean air, green spaces, safe transport, quality education, decent jobs, and digital opportunities.
“Listen to young people, invest in their solutions, and ensure their meaningful participation in urban planning processes at the institutional level,” the UN official urged.
