Today, the world is changing very rapidly, and we all understand that new technologies are transforming living standards, opportunities and society. At the same time, we are facing serious global challenges such as climate change, social inequality and environmental pressures, Vahid Hajiyev, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Jabrayil, Gubadli and Zangilan districts, said during the event titled “Smart and Sustainable City Projects in Azerbaijan” held within the framework of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), APA reports.
Vahid Hajiyev noted that the “Great Return Program” covering the years 2022–2026 is currently being implemented. Within the framework of this program, numerous measures are envisaged to make the return of internally displaced persons as sustainable as possible: “One of the main priorities was precisely sustainability. For this purpose, the program includes the construction of residential houses, development of territories, construction of roads and railways, establishment of all necessary infrastructure and creation of investment opportunities in the region.
Our goal is not only to rebuild residential houses. We wanted to create safe, sustainable and livable communities so that former internally displaced persons could return to their native lands with dignity and long-term confidence.”
According to him, the projects already being implemented include the villages of Aghali, Mammadbeyli and Koroglu, and these projects are of particular importance.
