South Caucasus’ role in global urban development agenda is growing, says National Coordinator of WUF13

The Global Baku Forum has for years become an important discussion platform. The theme of the forum held this year also reflects the realities of the modern era, said Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, National Coordinator of WUF13, Anar Guliyev, during his speech at the 13th Global Baku Forum, APA reports.

He noted that social inequality is observed in many parts of the world today and issues related to urban planning remain relevant for many countries: “Recovery and reconstruction processes after crises, especially construction work carried out in the post-conflict period, are of great importance. Considering the return of displaced populations, urban planning policies should be aimed at creating a more sustainable and safe environment for them. All these issues will be widely discussed at WUF13. One of the most important points is that the forum is being held in the Central Asia and South Caucasus region, which demonstrates the growing importance of the region in the global urban development agenda.”

Anar Guliyev also emphasized that sharing experience related to the reconstruction works carried out in the Karabakh and East Zangezur regions is of particular importance: “The construction works carried out in these areas are aimed at creating sustainable and safe cities. Currently, thousands of people live, work and study in those territories.”
