According to the 2026 edition of the World Migration Report, the number of international migrants worldwide reached 304 million in 2024, accounting for approximately 3.3 percent of the global population, Vusal Huseynov, head of the State Migration Service, said during the session titled “Migration and Cities: A Framework for Safe, Innovative and Sustainable Governance” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
He noted that the migration agenda was reviewed two weeks ago: “We discussed regular migration. The New Urban Agenda, inclusive urban development, and the resilience of global cities are important for migration. Migrants play a significant role in this process. Cities are on the threshold of transformation. Migrants not only influence labor relations, but also contribute to knowledge and creativity. A people-centered approach is applied in Azerbaijan’s migration policy. Appropriate opportunities are provided so that migrants feel at home.”
