“If I were given 1 billion dollars, I would turn it into bigger financing,” Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Anacláudia Rossbach, said while answering the moderator’s question, “If you had 1 billion dollars, how would you use it?” during the session titled “A New Deal for Housing Finance” held within the framework of WUF13, APA-Economics reports.

She stated that the main issue in housing finance is to combine funds with other financial resources and transform them into a larger investment opportunity.

Anacláudia Rossbach noted that part of the funds could be directed toward guarantees to reduce investment risks, while another part could be allocated to subsidies that bridge the gap between people’s purchasing power and housing costs.

According to her, not only construction and infrastructure costs, but also social management and work with communities should be financed in housing projects.

The UN-Habitat chief emphasized that social work with residents, management of residential complexes, and community mechanisms play a key role in ensuring the long-term sustainability of projects.
