“The protection of the city, preservation of its architecture and cultural heritage, establishment of peace and restoration of prosperity must be carried out in parallel in order to ensure the city’s sustainability," Professor Mahmud Erol Kılıç, Director General of the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), said during the panel session titled “Sustainable and Empowering Cultural Revitalization” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
He stated that efforts should be made to promote a slower and more balanced urban lifestyle:
“This approach prioritizes the people-centered development of cities. Within this framework, urban development programs include not only meeting basic needs, but also comprehensive approaches that preserve the city’s history, memory and cultural identity,” he emphasized.
