Media tour to Tamiz Shahar facilities organized within WUF13 - PHOTO

On March 16, a media tour was organized to the facilities of “Tamiz Shahar” OJSC within the framework of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), APA reports.

It was stated that the purpose of the tour was to familiarize media representatives with the modern approaches applied in waste management in Baku, recycling processes, and sustainable urban management practices.

As part of the information tour, participants first visited the Solid Waste Sorting Plant of “Tamiz Shahar” OJSC, where they became acquainted with the waste sorting process and a corner displaying valuable items found among the waste. Media representatives also observed the sorting process.

According to Orkhan Jabbarov, Head of the Public Relations Department of “Tamiz Shahar” OJSC, one of the main directions within the WUF13 event is waste management in the formation of sustainable cities.

He added that significant work is also being carried out in the recycling of plastic waste: “Over the past five years, we have sorted 3,500 tons of plastic bottles and sent them for recycling.”

Later, participants visited the Balakhani Industrial Park and the Baku Waste-to-Energy Plant, where they became acquainted with the recycling process and the production of electricity through waste incineration.

During the tour, it was noted that the Balakhani Industrial Park in Baku has become one of the important centers in the field of waste recycling and eco-friendly production. The park has been operating since 2017, and during this period, 28 residents have been registered there.

A total of AZN 57 million has been invested in the park by the state. As a result, since 2017, products worth approximately AZN 416 million have been produced through recycling. Products worth AZN 32 million of the total output have been exported to foreign countries.
