WUF13 is an important platform for resolving the global housing crisis, Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto said during his speech at the opening ceremony of WUF13.
The Kenyan leader stated that the global housing problem is currently one of the most serious challenges for almost all countries in the world: “According to statistics, 3 billion people in the world suffer from inadequate living conditions. One billion people live in slums, while 300 million people are homeless. These are not just numbers, they are people, families and children.”
He noted that this is precisely why international platforms such as WUF13 play an important role in discussing issues of urban planning, social justice and the right to housing, because having housing is one of the fundamental human rights.
“The Universal Declaration of Human Rights confirms that housing is a human right,” the Kenyan leader emphasized.
