Sports should be viewed not as a separate field, but as an integral part of urban planning, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability policies, Italian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Luca Di Gianfrancesco said during the special session titled “Cities as Playing Fields” held within the framework of WUF13, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, although the contribution of sports to human well-being and societal development is widely recognized, there is still a need to raise awareness about integrating this field into a broader strategic framework.
Luca Di Gianfrancesco noted that sports infrastructure delivers more effective results when linked with urban planning, social policy, and environmental objectives.
The ambassador stated that Italy places special importance on supporting sports-related projects with strong social and environmental impact within the framework of the partnership platform for the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals.
According to him, this approach strengthens the contribution of sports to the more inclusive and sustainable development of cities.
