The World Urban Forum (WUF13) being held in Baku is considered one of the world’s largest forums in the field of urban planning, Iran’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mojtaba Demirchilou said in a statement to APA.
According to him, Azerbaijan’s hosting of such a major international forum demonstrates the country’s special interest in this field: “At the same time, I believe that holding this forum and the participation of the Iranian delegation here create an opportunity to refocus attention on urban planning and bilateral cooperation in Iran-Azerbaijan relations. In my opinion, this forum will have a positive impact on our relations.”
The ambassador emphasized that Iran has organized a separate pavilion at WUF13.
The diplomat also spoke about Iran-Azerbaijan relations. Mojtaba Demirchilou stated that Iran and Azerbaijan have longstanding relations: “I believe that as two neighboring, friendly and brotherly countries, we should always maintain our relations at a high level and continue to develop them. Currently, positive dynamics are being observed in various fields — political, economic and other areas. There is even greater potential between the two countries. These opportunities should be used for the welfare of our peoples, as well as for stability and the development of cooperation in the region.”
The ambassador noted that WUF13 creates new opportunities: “Such events create opportunities for Iran and Azerbaijan to become more closely acquainted with each other’s projects, experiences and approaches. For example, it is possible to learn what innovations are being implemented in the field of urban planning in Azerbaijan. At the same time, the opportunities and experience existing in Iran may also be of interest to Azerbaijan. In general, I believe that this forum will give a new impetus to our cooperation.”
The ambassador particularly highlighted the strong opportunities for cooperation in the field of science: “For example, there was previously successful cooperation between Tabriz University of Medical Sciences and Azerbaijan Medical University. Joint medical programs and operations were carried out. These collaborations need to be restored and strengthened. At the same time, there is great potential in the fields of economy, transport, industry and urban planning. Strong companies operating in various sectors in East Azerbaijan Province are active, and it is possible to mutually benefit from their experience.”
