“Wars create serious challenges in providing housing,” said Rony Lahoud, Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Public Housing Corporation in Lebanon, during the session titled “Housing as a Human Right: Regional Perspectives and Strategies for the Arab World” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
He said that major destruction has been recorded in around 70 cities and villages in Lebanon, including severe damage to hospitals and schools.
“Since 2019, limited financial resources in the housing sector have remained a serious issue. We are cooperating between the public and private sectors. Our goal is to ensure social stability. At present, at least 65 different sectors are working together in this direction to achieve the set objectives. An increase in illegal residential areas is also being observed. Analyses show that such illegal constructions should be eliminated gradually. Since 2024, measures have been implemented in this field, and a total of $11 billion has been allocated,” he emphasized.
