D-8 Secretary General: WUF-13 was organized at a high level

On May 20, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Secretary General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation Sohail Mahmood, who is visiting Azerbaijan, MFA told APA.

The Secretary General expressed gratitude for the high-level organization of the World Urban Forum (WUF-13), in which he participated, and for the useful discussions held within its framework.

During the meeting, the existing cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the D-8 was discussed, and opportunities for further development of relations in the political, economic, energy, transport and logistics fields were reviewed.

The active activities carried out by Azerbaijan within the organization during the short period since its accession to D-8 membership were highly appreciated. Satisfaction was expressed with the practical steps taken regarding the organization of the D-8 Week in Azerbaijan for the first time in October 2025, as well as the establishment of the D-8 Energy and Climate Center, the D-8 Media Excellence Center and the D-8 Transport Excellence Center in the country within this framework. An exchange of views was held on the work carried out in this direction.

In general, the importance of joint efforts was emphasized to further increase the influence of the D-8, which unites politically and economically important countries, a population of about 1.3 billion, and a GDP of 5 trillion.

The meeting also reviewed regional and international security issues, noted the importance of reducing tensions in the Middle East, strengthening the ceasefire and ensuring stability, and exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
