“Some countries have abundant fresh water resources, but although Azerbaijan is rich in energy resources, its fresh water resources are limited," Fuad Baghirov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Green Building Council, said during the event titled “Delivering Decarbonized, Resilient and Locally Sourced Homes” held within the framework of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), APA reports.
He stated that there are different realities in our region.
“Very often, global sustainability discussions are mainly shaped on the basis of models developed by Western Europe and North America. These models are valuable — they provide methodology, structure, investor confidence and technical criteria. However, these approaches were formed under very specific historical, climatic, infrastructural and economic conditions. Our region has different realities, and this becomes particularly evident when looking at green certification systems,” he stressed.
Fuad Baghirov noted that countries face different environmental pressures, some economies are still highly dependent on coal, while others struggle with energy shortages and unstable electricity infrastructure.
