The construction of one landfill and four transfer stations is planned in the Absheron Waste Basin, Gunel Guliyeva, head of the Cooperation with International Investment Funds and Donors Division under the Department for Work with Foreign Financial Institutions and Investment Funds at Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy, said during the event titled “Combating Plastic Pollution: Promoting Livable Cities and a Circular Economy” held at the Azerbaijan pavilion within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
She stated that various works are being carried out within the framework of the Ministry of Economy’s joint cooperation with the World Bank.
“Within the framework of the project, steps will be taken toward the cleanup of polluted areas. As part of the Absheron waste basin project, the construction of one landfill in Absheron and four transfer stations in the territories of Khizi and Shamakhi is planned. The construction of additional transfer stations is also envisaged in the next stages of the project.
One of the main goals in this direction is the application of international experience and the use of modern standards in landfill construction. We are working responsibly on these projects and believe that in the next stages, the construction of landfills and transfer centers in the regions will help achieve better results in the management of household waste in the Absheron area, taking into account the growing population burden,” she noted.
