Today’s discussions clearly demonstrated that the New Urban Agenda is not only relevant, but also vital, Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture Anar Guliyev said this during his speech at the closing session of the Ministerial Meeting on the New Urban Agenda (NUA) held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

He noted that we once again realize that the challenges facing our cities are becoming more complex: “Accordingly, our ambitions must also become stronger.

During today’s national statements and thematic panels, one message was particularly clear: housing issues must remain at the center of our urban policies and political commitments.

At the same time, today’s dialogue once again confirmed that it is impossible to separate the housing agenda from the climate agenda.

How we build, where we build, and how our cities grow will determine not only urban well-being, but also our climate future.”

Anar Guliyev emphasized that housing is one of the most visible intersection points between urban development and climate action: “Resilient and sustainable housing protects communities from floods, heatwaves, droughts, and rising sea levels.

Energy-efficient buildings reduce emissions and support the transition to low-carbon cities.

Compact urban planning, green mobility, and nature-based solutions improve both environmental sustainability and quality of life.

That is precisely why aligning the urban and climate agendas is essential.”
