The World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku creates opportunities for countries to find new approaches to solving problems related to housing affordability and homelessness, Cheri Reddin, Director General for Intergovernmental and External Partnerships for Housing and Homelessness at Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada, said in a statement to APA-Economics.

According to her, the Canadian delegation delivered a presentation at the forum on the current situation regarding the housing market, homelessness, housing supply and affordability in the country, as well as measures being implemented to address these problems.

“We came here both to share our experience and to learn from the experiences of other countries. Our goal is to take useful practices back to Canada and apply them in line with local conditions,” Sherry Reddin said.

She noted that housing and homelessness issues are common challenges for many countries and that no country can fully solve these problems alone.

“We must learn from one another, review best practices and adapt them to the conditions of our own countries,” she stressed.

The Canadian official stated that even integrating one or two key ideas gained as a result of the forum into the country’s housing policy and financing mechanisms would be significant.

Cheri Reddin added that international cooperation and exchange of experience make an important contribution to building more sustainable and livable cities of the future.
