The cleanup of three lakes in Baku from waste will begin, Gunel Guliyeva, head of the Cooperation with International Investment Funds and Donors Division under the Department for Work with Foreign Financial Institutions and Investment Funds at Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy, said during the event titled “Combating Plastic Pollution: Promoting Livable Cities and a Circular Economy” held at the Azerbaijan pavilion within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
She noted that the Ministry of Economy and the World Bank are planning the implementation of new projects.
“In 2025, as the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, we ensured the implementation of the Baku grant project jointly carried out with the World Bank. The main purpose of the project is to support urban governance, develop public services, and apply technologies aimed at implementing green economic activities.
Within the framework of the grant project, the implementation of new projects with the World Bank is planned at the next stage, and work in this direction is currently ongoing. One of the main components of the project is the cleanup of three lakes around Baku — Boyukshor, Zigh, and Khojahasan lakes,” she said.
