"Azerbaijan has been implementing serious reforms in the field of urban planning for a long time and at the same time is making its contribution to the international agenda," the Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, national coordinator of WUF13, Anar Guliyev, told journalists, APA reports.
He said that cooperation with specialized UN organizations is being carried out in preparation for WUF13:
“We have been holding the National Urban Forum for several years, and issues of interest to the entire region are discussed and solutions are proposed at this forum. An initiative has been put forward to develop rules for people-centered, smart cities. Two Azerbaijani specialists have joined the expert group on this document. This process has already been completed, and the presentation ceremony will be held in Baku at the end of the year. Azerbaijan has also been elected the head of the support group for governments in the UN-Habitat organization, and through this means is trying to share its experience in the international community. Of course, next year, the main topic of WUF13 (the 13th meeting of the World Urban Forum) will be household problems. Here, too, Azerbaijan will be able to present its experience on a number of projects,” Anar Guliyev noted.
