A delegation led by the Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Anar Guliyev, visited the city of Belem, Brazil, within the framework of the 30th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), the Committee told APA.
The Chairman of the Committee, speaking at the Ministerial Meeting on Urban Planning and Climate Change and the round table on "Informal Settlement, Territorial Transformation and Housing", stressed the importance of multi-level cooperation in addressing housing and climate challenges.
Anar Guliyev also presented to the international audience the restoration works based on the principles of "smart" and "green" urban planning in the territories liberated within the framework of Azerbaijan's "Great Return" program. He also noted that Azerbaijan’s co-chairing role in the Baku Sustainability Coalition and the UN Intergovernmental Working Group on Affordable Housing for All has made a significant contribution to the integration of urban planning and climate agendas.
Speaking at the Ministerial Meeting organized on the occasion of Urban Planning Day within the framework of COP30, the Chairman of the Committee noted that Azerbaijan’s hosting of COP29 has given new impetus to multilevel climate cooperation and emphasized the importance of the Baku Sustainability Coalition with the Multilevel Action Pathways (MAP) initiative in this direction.
During the visit, Anar Guliyev also met with Brazilian Minister of Cities Jader Filho, discussed cooperation opportunities in the field of sustainable and inclusive urban development, and provided information on preparations for the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) to be held in Baku.
At the same time, during his speeches and meetings within the framework of COP30, Anar Guliyev, the national coordinator for WUF13, invited the participants to participate in the 13th World Urban Forum to be held in Baku as a continuation of Azerbaijan's COP29 experience and multi-level cooperation agenda. He emphasized that this global platform will create a unique opportunity for discussions in the areas of the future of cities, climate sustainability, and innovative urban planning.
