"This forum is the first platform dedicated to intercity cooperation for the SPECA region," said Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and National Coordinator for WUF13, during the forum titled “Special Forum of Cities: Housing Solutions for an Inclusive and Sustainable Urban Future” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
He noted that the forum was established by six cities — Almaty, Arkadag, Bishkek, Dushanbe, Ganja, and Samarkand.
“The main belief uniting these cities is that cooperation between cities can create results that would be impossible to achieve individually.
This session is of particular importance because it marks the official launch of the SPECA Cities Forum. The initiative reflects a shared understanding that the challenges faced by our cities require stronger regional cooperation, practical partnerships, and sustained dialogue between local and national authorities. Today, that same principle continues to guide our urban agenda. Modern cities are no longer only centers of economic activity and population growth. They also play a key role in climate resilience, energy efficiency, digital transformation, social inclusiveness, and sustainable urban governance,” he said.
He added that cities in the SPECA region are undergoing significant urban transformation accompanied by deep urbanization processes, population growth, and economic transformation.
“This forum is intended as an open and evolving platform, and we invite additional cities and partners across the region to join this initiative and contribute to its future activities,” he stated.
