ADB promotes high-rise construction around metro stations, Srinivas Sampath, Director for Water and Urban Development at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), said during the session titled “A New Deal for Housing Finance” held within the framework of WUF13, APA-Economics reports.

He stated that within the framework of metro projects financed by ADB, a transit-oriented urban planning model is being implemented together with local governments.

Srinivas Sampath noted that higher construction density is allowed around strategic metro stations, thereby placing residential and work spaces closer to transportation.

According to him, this approach creates conditions for both more efficient use of urban space and the expansion of commercial opportunities.

The ADB official emphasized that this model also increases the private sector’s interest in maintaining infrastructure facilities.

Srinivas Sampath added that governments should not focus only on the number of houses being built, but should also consider the quality of the overall living environment created and the balance of urban planning.
