The restoration of Irpin became possible thanks to the significant support of our international partners, Angela Makeeva, Secretary of the Irpin City Council and acting mayor, said during the event titled “Lachin & Kalbajar: From Urbicide to Post-Conflict Reconstruction” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
According to her, more than 20 organizations joined the restoration of the city of Irpin.
“European platforms, UNICEF, the International Organization for Migration, various foundations and humanitarian organizations supported the restoration of our city. Among all our partners, Azerbaijan holds a special place in the heart of Irpin,” she said.
On behalf of the city community, Angelina Makeeva expressed sincere gratitude to Azerbaijan for its support to Ukraine, including Irpin.
“The memory of Zarifa Aliyeva lives on in our city. A park and a school have been named after Zarifa Aliyeva. That school is the only educational institution in Ukraine where children study the Azerbaijani language. Thanks to the support of the Azerbaijani government, a lyceum and the city polyclinic in Irpin have resumed operations. We are ready to further expand our cooperation with Azerbaijan and jointly restore four more important facilities in our community. Thank you for the friendship that has stood the test of time,” she said.
The acting mayor noted that today approximately 80 percent of the city of Irpin has been restored through the joint efforts of the Ukrainian state and international partners.
“It is extremely important for us to speak here today about Irpin, Ukraine and our joint struggle for freedom and peace,” she added.
