A panel was held on the historical and legal basis of the right to return of Azerbaijanis forcibly expelled from Armenia, APA reports.
Historical and legal issues related to the topic were discussed at a panel held within the framework of the II international conference organized by the Western Azerbaijan Community on the topic "The Right of Return: Promoting Justice for Azerbaijanis Forcibly Deported from Armenia."
The panel moderator, MP Fariz Ismayilzadeh, provided information about the directions to be discussed and introduced the speakers.
Riffat Inam Butt, Secretary of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan, noted the need to support civil society activities in addressing the right of return and such issues: “It is very important to support the activities of civil societies. Because they play a great role in the preservation of cultural heritage. Azerbaijan is making proposals based on international law. These should be taken into account in ensuring peace.”
In the panel, Dr. Michael Hess, a lecturer at Frankfurt University, Dr. Valentina Chabert, an associate in International Law at Sapienza University of Rome, Guram Markhulia, a professor at Sukhumi State University, a political scientist, and a historian, Ali Asgarov, a professor at the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at Greensboro University shared their views on the importance of the right of return, historical facts, and how to regulate political relations in today's reality.
