Istanbul broke the tourist record of the last 10 years in July, APA-Economics reports.

Istanbul hosted 1 million 873 thousand 97 people in July, the highest number of foreign tourists on a monthly basis in the last 10 years. While 9 million 776 thousand 635 foreign tourists visited the megacity in the 7-month period of the year, this number increased by 15 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to the data of Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, 8 million 514 thousand 806 foreign tourists came to Istanbul in the 7-month period of 2022. The number of tourists increased by 15 percent in the same period of this year and reached 9 million 776 thousand 635.

The city, which was visited by 1 million 759 thousand 506 foreign tourists in July last year, hosted 1 million 873 thousand 97 foreign tourists this July. Thus, the number of foreign tourists arriving in July increased by about 6 percent compared to last year. According to the data, after July this year, the most tourists came to Istanbul in the same month of 2022.

In July, 1 million 823 thousand 416 people reached Istanbul by air and 49 thousand 681 people by sea.

Compared to the same period last year, arrivals to the city by air increased by 5 percent and those arriving by sea increased by 72 percent.

In July this year, 1642 passengers arrived from Atatürk Airport, 517 thousand 429 from Sabiha Gökçen Airport and 1 million 304 thousand 345 from Istanbul Airport. By sea, 1846 foreign visitors came to the city from Tuzla Port, 42 thousand 520 from Karaköy Port, 2 thousand 926 from Sarayburnu Port, 1719 from Zeytinburnu Port, 361 from Ambarlı Port, 240 from Haydarpaşa Port, 39 from Marmara Port and 30 from Pendik Port.

Of the tourists arriving by air, 71.53 percent used Istanbul Airport and 28.38 percent used Sabiha Gökçen Airport.
