Scientific-practical workshop on 11th anniversary of MES establishment kicks off in Baku

A scientific-practical workshop dedicated to the 11th anniversary of the establishment of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) kicked off in Baku Dec. 20.

Addressing the event, Major General Yusif Nabiyev, a MES chief expert of fire safety, gave detailed information about the ministry’s establishment.

He noted that the ministry is working on developing the state policy in the sphere of civil defense, protection of the population and the territory from emergency situations, ensuring fire safety, safety of people in water basins, technical safety in industry and mining operations, construction safety and prevention of emergency situations in oil spill accidents.

Agshin Kazimov, deputy chief of the State Fire Control Service, gave a lecture on future plans to improve the service’s operation.

Kazimov gave detailed information about the history of fire control service in Azerbaijan, noting that these services are improved in stages.

Then, Colonel Ilgar Dadashov, head of the MES Academy’s department on safety of life activity specialty subjects, delivered a lecture on prospects of improvement in staff training.

The seminar was also attended by Lieutenant General Evgeny Alexandrovich, an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Complex Security.

“The Azerbaijani president, the Ministry of Emergency Situations administration and the minister himself pay much attention to improving Azerbaijan’s system of protection from fire. I’ve met some generals during this visit. I can say that the MES’s State Fire Control Service has access to up-to-date logistics. Firefighting units has a modern notion of firefight. I think Azerbaijan has gained enough experience in this area,” he said.
