As of May 2018, there are 5,831 registered HIV-infected people in the Azerbaijan Republican AIDS Center, the acting director of the center, Eldaniz Muradov, said on Friday, APA reports.
He noted that 4,138 of them are men and 1,693 are women.
Muradov said that the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was first detected in Azerbaijan in 1987.
Some 2,103 citizens are at the AIDS stage, said Muradov, stressing that 904 people has died of HIV since 1987.
He added that 4,427 people have been undergoing antiretroviral therapy since 2006.
