Judge appeals to Bar Association over cases of Taleh Baghirov and others

Baku. Shahriyar Alizade – APA. The Baku Court on Grave Crimes on Thursday resumed the trial of Taleh Baghirov, Fuad Gahramanli and others.

Witness Elchin Taghiyev, chief operating officer of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, answered questions at the hearing presided over by judge Alovsat Abbasov. Convict Abbas Huseynov tried to belie the witness, saying “the black-masked bandits caught me like Tom used to catch Jerry in the cartoon, and laid me face down.”

The judge rebuked him for using unethical expressions.

“You call them ‘black-masked bandits.” That’s your attitude. But they were police,” he stressed.

Prosecutor Nasib Bayramov too objected to him, noting that it’s inadmissible to use unethical expressions in court. “The convicts mention a cartoon as an example, feeling like somewhere else. That needs paying attention to.”

Huseynov then asked the witness what had caused his face injuries at the time of his detention. He replied that the automatic rifle had hit his face.

Alovsat Abbasov said that despite having been warned many times, the attorneys do not show up in court and that he has appealed to the Bar Association in this regard.

The process continued in the second half of the day.

The convicts and attending attorneys asked that the process should continue like this.

The judge refused, saying “Since we’re talking about law, then this matter has to be solved. We have someone here who has not reached adulthood yet. But his attorney isn’t here. This matter has to be solved. I will appeal to the Bar Association once again.”

The process will continue on August 26.

Taleh Bagirov is charged under paragraphs 120.2.1, 120.2.3, 120.2.4, 120.2.7, 120.2.12 of article 120 (premeditated murder), 29,120.2.1, 29,120.2.3, 29,120.2.4, 29,120.2.7, 29,120.2.12 29,120 of article 29,120(attempt to murder), under articles 228.3 (illegal purchase of firearms) and 228.4 (illegal possession of firearms). Taleh Bagirov was detained by law enforcement officials during a special operation in Nardaran settlement of Baku on 26 November. During the operation 60 people were detained. The criminal cases of some of them were sent to the Sabunchu District Court.

Deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Fuad Gahramanli was arrested on December 8, 2015.

He was brought to justice as a suspect under the Article 281.1 (public calls against the state) and 283.2 (incitement of national, racial, social or religious enmity and hatred by using violence) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
