Baku – APA. After seizing the Iraqi cities Mosul and Tikrit, the forces of the terrorist organization called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) are moving toward the capital Baghdad. The Iraqi Army and ISIS forces are currently fighting in Baqubah which is located 50 km away from the capital, APA reports quoting Turkish media outlets.
It is reported that Baghdad residents had already started to leave the city. ISIS forces took control of the Kirkuk-Baghdad road. The majority of Baqubah’s population is Sunnis. The city is located 95 km away from the border with Iran. The correspondent of Al Jazeera Omar al-Saleh said that ISIS militants are moving toward Baghdad, where curfew was declared, through Salah-ad-Din province.
ISIS spokesman Abu Mohammed al-Adnani said their main goal is to capture Baghdad and Karbala, the holy city for Shiites). ISIS considers Shiites enemy.
