Baku. Konul Kamilgizi – APA. Today, there is a great need for kidney transplant operations in Azerbaijan, Fariz Babayev, chief of Hemodialysis Department of Republican Clinic Urological Hospital, told reporters on Wednesday.
Babayev said in Azerbaijan like all over the world, kidney transplants in the first phase are carried out only by transplanting organs of relatives.
He noted that the Health Ministry and the Cabinet of Ministers are considering the transplant of organs from dead bodies.
In June 2015, Azerbaijan hosted the Congress of Turkic transplantologists, which was attended by over 500 representatives from 21 countries, Babayev recalled.
“Azerbaijani religious figures also attended the event in order to promote donation of the organs of deceased people. This can help save the lives of many people,” he said, noting that there is no problem here from a medical point of view, it’s only necessary to create public awareness.
