Baku. Shahriyar Alizade – APA. The Baku Court of Grave Crimes on Wednesday resumed the trial of Taleh Baghirov, the deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Fuad Gahramanli and others.
Jeyhun Imamverdiyev, representing the Main Directorate for Combating Organize Crime, said in his speech they conducted the operation after receiving information of Taleh Baghirov creating an armed group and his whereabouts being somewhere in Nardaran.
He added that two grenades exploded as two police officers broke into the house to detain Taleh. Despite the warning, the opposite side open fire. “And we opened retaliatory fire. I wasn’t able to see the target as opened fire. I’m not sure if anyone died of me opening fire,” he said.
He then answered questions from the prosecutor and attorneys, saying the group’s head invited witnesses to go to the house together. The people wounded in the incident received first aid and were hospitalized.
Asked what harm he suffered, Imamguliyev replied that his was hit by a bullet but he survived as he was wearing a bulletproof vest. “They opened fire at us, showing resistance. Two fellow police officers died, what could be worse than that?
The process then paused. Because some of the attorney did not show up following the break, the trial will be resumed on September 1.
Taleh Bagirov is charged under paragraphs 120.2.1, 120.2.3, 120.2.4, 120.2.7, 120.2.12 of article 120 (premeditated murder), 29,120.2.1, 29,120.2.3, 29,120.2.4, 29,120.2.7, 29,120.2.12 29,120 of article 29,120(attempt to murder), under articles 228.3 (illegal purchase of firearms) and 228.4 (illegal possession of firearms). Taleh Bagirov was detained by law enforcement officials during a special operation in Nardaran settlement of Baku on 26 November. During the operation 60 people were detained. The criminal cases of some of them were sent to the Sabunchu District Court.
Deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Fuad Gahramanli was arrested on December 8, 2015.
He was brought to justice as a suspect under the Article 281.1 (public calls against the state) and 283.2 (incitement of national, racial, social or religious enmity and hatred by using violence) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
