Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers mulls strengthening control over illicit medicine trade

The Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss strengthening control over illicit trade in medicines.

Heads and representatives of relevant government agencies attended the meeting that was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov, APA reports.

They held discussions on the import and quality of medicines.

Ahmadov recalled that the Azerbaijani government made a decision to regulate the prices of medicines in the country.

He noted that in Azerbaijan medicines are sold at prices regulated by the state, and Azerbaijani citizens highly appreciate this.

The deputy premier said that a group of individuals engaged in counterfeit drug sale was detained in the country.

Speaking of the work done to protect public health, Ahmadov said that the average life expectancy in Azerbaijan has increased. He stressed that a decisive struggle against counterfeit drug sale in Azerbaijan will continue.

Ahmadov went on to say that the problem of counterfeit medicines is widespread in the world, and there is a struggle against this.

The deputy prime minister talked about the conditions created by the Azerbaijani government for enterprises engaged in the production and sale of medicines, and noted that they will always be assisted by the government.
