Azerbaijan to carry out cadaveric organ transplant

An organ transplant from a deceased donor (cadaver) will be performed in Azerbaijan in the near future, Mirjalal Kazimi, head of the surgery and organ transplant department of the Central Hospital of Oil Workers, member of Health Ministry’s Coordinating Council on Transplant, told APA on Wednesday.

 

According to Kazimi, the activity of the Coordinating Council on Transplant will create conditions to perform a cadaveric organ transplant in the country.

 

He noted that the Council aims to improve on transplant and doing the work under supervision of the Ministry of Health in a centralized manner.

 

“Patients in need of organ transplant have appealed to various doctors within and outside of Azerbaijan and they have mostly been dissatisfied with the result. The Council will now refer such patients to appropriate medical facilities in order for them to receive timely professional treatment,” he said.  

 

The department head said the Council is holding regular meetings on the matter, noting that in the near future they will determine the number of patients in need of organ transplant and make a public statement in this regard.

 

According to him, head of the medical service department of the Central Customs Hospital Fikrat Gadimaliyev has been appointed chairman of the Coordinating Council on Transplant.

 

The Council was created a while ago upon the order signed by Health Minister Ogtay Shiraliyev.  

 

The Council is due to coordinate transplantation of human organs and tissues, do specific examinations, and ensure the transplantation work in a consecutive order. The Council will submit proposals to the ministry on improvement of transplantation and even creation of a donor bank.
