The Azerbaijani Health Ministry’s department on import and expertise of medical products has received requests for the import of more than 27,000 different medicines since early 2016, a ministry official told reporters on Tuesday.

“23,000 of them proved to be appropriate after necessary documents and samples were presented. So their import was allowed,” said Parviz Azizbeyli.

According to him, about 4,000 medicines were found to have some discrepancies, which he said have to do with registration, instruction sheet, and packaging.

Azizbeyli noted that discrepancies with more than 3,000 medicines were solved by manufacturers and importing companies.

Azerbaijan has put a ban on the import of 212 different medicines this year, he said, adding that the rest of them are still being probed.

Azizbeyli said the relevant contracts were concluded with those who appealed the department on import and expertise of medical products for primary and specialized expertise of medicines in accordance with the rules on state registration of medicines, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

“More than 400 medicines have been registered by the department since the beginning of 2016,” he said, adding. “We have put forward an initiative on creation of a translation service to speed up the procedure of approval of medicine instructions. The initiative has already been approved by the Ministry of Health, and rates for translation services have been determined.”
