Public affairs department of Geology Institute told APA that the analysis focused on vertical and horizontal movements of the Earth crust, dynamic features of the ground. Field levelling and gravimetric measurements were used for this purpose, quakes were recorded in 4 seismic stations located along the pipeline.

The analysis was carried out with the support of BP as a part of the project “Geodynamic monitoring along BTC pipeline and surrounding areas”

Head of the project, chief of Geodynamics and Seismology Department of the Institute, correspondent member of ANAS Fakhraddin Gadirov said some rocks can increase the risk and magnitude of the quake. All these studies aim at assessing these hazards.

“Basing on the work done since 2008, we can say that geodynamic activity permanently exists in the areas through which the pipeline passes, but currently there is no hazard that may damage the pipeline,” he said.
Gadirov said the studies should be continued, a new project was being presented.
