Roundtable titled “Provision of assistance to IDPs in Azerbaijan by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees” held

A round table meeting entitled the provision of assistance to IDPs in Azerbaijan by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Baku has been held, APA reports.

Delivering a speech at the meeting, representative of UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Azerbaijan Guido Ambroso stated that High Commissioner spent nearly $ 50m on implementation of programs and payment of administrative expenses in Azerbaijan in 1993-2000.

The representative of UN High Commissioner stated that about 50,000 Meskhetian Turks were moved from Georgia to Central Asia at a time when more than 1 million people in Azerbaijan became refugees and IDPs

Rovshan Rzayev, chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Refugees and IDPs emphasized the necessity of holding hearings regarding the four UN resolutions: “We should hold an exchange of views regarding this with the permanent representatives of UN to Baku. We should discuss the current situation of the implementation of resolutions adopted once or in which direction we can find out the implementation mechanism.”

The meeting continued with speeches and presentations.
