Foreigners who are detained, serving fixed-term imprisonment, or sentenced to life imprisonment (with the exception of those serving in settlement-type penitentiary institutions) will be provided with medical services under compulsory health insurance, APA reports.
This is reflected in the proposed amendments to the Law on Health Insurance, which were discussed today at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Healthcare.
The draft was prepared with the aim of ensuring that medical examinations of detainees, prisoners serving fixed-term sentences, and life convicts are carried out within the framework of compulsory health insurance.
Under the proposed amendments, detainees, fixed-term prisoners, and life convicts have been included in Article 15-2.1 of the said law, while this category has been removed from Article 15-2.3. At the same time, it has been taken into account that persons within this category may also fall under the status of foreign nationals and stateless persons.
Since providing medical services to this category of individuals carries a special character, Article 15-17.2.3-3 is being added to the Law, which will define the application conditions for the medical services to be provided to them within the Benefits Package.
