In April of this year, Ramil Iskandarli, the interim Secretary-General of the Global South NGO Platform established in Baku with the participation of NGOs from 116 countries, is on a visit to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, APA reports.
Within the framework of the visit, the head of the Platform spoke as an honorary guest at the Summer School organized by the Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) for nearly 200 African NGOs.
R. Iskandarli noted that PACJA is an active member of the Global South NGO Platform and closely participated in the establishment at COP29.
The interim Secretary-General of the Global South NGO Platform specifically emphasized that Azerbaijan is a country that adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of states, respects the political systems of peoples, their cultural, ethnic, and religious differences, and constantly promotes interfaith, intercivilizational, and intercultural dialogue. He also stated that the Global South NGO Platform firmly rejects all forms and manifestations of colonialism and considers such behaviors, which bring tragedy, slavery, and suffering to peoples, unacceptable.
At the meeting, NGO representatives from Africa emphasized that Azerbaijan has become a strong voice of the Global South, explaining the establishment of this platform specifically in Baku as a high appreciation of Azerbaijan’s activities during its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement and COP29. Ramil Iskandarli provided information about the calling of the Global South NGO Platform’s General Assembly in 2026.
