National Simulation Pursuit on the preparation for the high-pathogenic avian flu takes place in Baku

According to APA, Minister of Agriculture Ismat Abbasov said two-day event aimed to strengthen the readiness and opportunities of the country against the high-pathogenic avian flu among the population and animals. The Minister said bird flu was identified in Azerbaijan in 2006. The disease was infected from the migrant birds to the poultry. The state commission was established in Azerbaijan for the prevention of virus infection and the focus of disease was eliminated as a result of measures taken against it. Department chief of the Health Ministry Victor Gasimov noted that five of the eight bird-flu-infected peoples in Azerbaijan died. The ministry official reminded that joint efforts of the relative organizations for the prevention of the disease yielded fruit. US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse positively appreciated the work done in Azerbaijan for the prevention of avian flu and said the US Government was ready to support Azerbaijanâ€™s efforts in this field further. Representative of the WHO European Regional Bureau Anna Paula Kautinho said her organization supported Azerbaijan in the preparation of the plan of preventive measures against the disease. Kautinho said such measures were very important in Azerbaijan and added that it was impossible to define in advance where pandemic would take place. Therefore all countries should be ready for this struggle.
