Anne Derse: â€œInfant death rate has reduced in Azerbaijan recentlyâ€

Baku-APA. With the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the State Statistical Committee, in close cooperation with UNICEF, hosted a final national conference on June 24 at the State Statistical Committee to disseminate the 2006 Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) report. U.S. Ambassador Anne Derse said that demographic and health survey was one of the global efforts realized by the USAID. She said the care for the health of women and children had noticeably increased in Azerbaijan.
â€œInfant death rate reduced by 42 percent in 2006 compared with 2001. This proves Azerbaijani governmentâ€™s intention to invest in human capitalâ€, she said.
Anne Derse said that the US would continue to work with official Baku to extend the progress achieved in improving the living standards of Azerbaijani citizens.
