Baku hosts 6th International Conference of Ombudsmen

Addressing international conference on Human Rights in Globalizing World devoted to 60th anniversary of adoption of United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and June 18 - Day of Human Rights in Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova noted that Ombudsmen from 50 countries participated in the conference. She noted that Month of Human Rights was held from May 19 to June 18 and many events had been organized within the framework of the month. The Ombudsman added that all detention facilities had been monitored within a month. Fuad Alasgarov, Head of the President’s Office Department for Work with Law Enforcement Bodies read out a message of Ilham Aliyev for attendees.
The message covers that Azerbaijan will demonstrate its power for liberation of occupied lands and restoration of violated rights of over 1 million refugees and IDPs as a result of genocide and ethnic cleansing .
“I hope that Ombudsmen and representatives of international organizations will focus on it and we will restore the violated rights of peoples all together”, the letter says.
UN Resident Coordinator Bruno Pouezat highly estimated the holding of events on 60th anniversary of adoption of United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Azerbaijan. He noted that about 5000 copies of Declaration had been distributed in Azerbaijan. MP Ganira Pashayeva, Latif Huseynov, Department Chief of MM made statements in the conference.
