Azerbaijan prepares proposals on amendment to the Labor Code
# 24 October 2007 15:37 (UTC +04:00)
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection is developing proposals on amendments to the Labor Code.
Abulfat Maharramov, Officer of the Ministry, said the code is planned to include notions like “employees with family caregiving responsibilities” and “a woman or a man with family caregiving responsibilities”.
In addition, the employees-to-be will be required to submit appropriate documents on marital status (number and ages of children) when hiring.
"Under the existing code, in hiring a worker he is not required to give any documents about his family. We want to improve the code with inclusion of these notions,” he added.
He said under the current code, only a pregnant woman and a woman with children under 3 years old can not be dismissed while the proposals offer that employees having impaired persons (Group 1) or children in their family can not be dismissed either. Besides, it is proposed employment conditions and social welfare of the part-time or temporary workers should be equivalent to the full-time employees.
In addition, the proposals offer free centers for employees with family caregiving responsibilities in order to help them bring up their children at the centers.
“These centers will be like Soviet-era kindergartens and preschools,” he added.
He said the proposals will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers within a month and come effective next year. /APA-Economics/
